Looking back on the season, the one game that stuck out to me the most was our game against UNOH. The only thing people will see about that game, was the “L” that is on our schedule. But to me, that’s when I knew our team would never back down from a challenge. That’s when I knew our team lived the “Fearless” motto.
It was a game that we played on the road, during winter break. As any college basketball player knows, those are the hardest games to get up for…you don’t have a lot of motivation, no one is on campus, and in our case, we were defending National Champions and currently top-5 in the country, so everyone was trying to beat us.
Throughout the first half, UNOH was outworking and outplaying us. At one point in the 2nd half, we found ourselves down 15. It could have been very easy to just coast the rest of the game and gone back to Marion and prepared for our next game…but that wasn’t us. We fought. We clawed. We scratched our way back into the game and even bobbled the lead back and forth near the end. As a matter of fact, Grant Evans, one of our best shooters had a chance to win the game, but it wasn’t our day.
Regardless of the outcome, I knew that after that game, we were actually fearless and that we would fight in every game for the rest of the season.
